About Us

Attentive, Independent, and Clear

Monsoon Counsel was founded on a straightforward idea: that investors who understand Asia-Pacific markets make better decisions, whatever those decisions turn out to be.

Our Story

Built for a Gap in the Market

Monsoon Counsel was established in Hong Kong by a group of educators and market professionals who noticed a consistent gap: many midlife investors in the city held portfolios with significant Asia-Pacific exposure but had little organised knowledge of how those markets actually functioned.

The standard options were either too brief — a one-day seminar that offered orientation but little depth — or too technical, designed for candidates pursuing professional qualifications rather than for people who simply wanted to think more clearly about their own financial lives.

We built a set of programmes that sit between those two extremes. The content is serious and substantive, drawn from decades of combined experience across regional markets. The delivery is patient and oriented toward practical understanding rather than credential accumulation.

Our office is at Metroplaza in Kwai Fong, where we have run small, focused cohorts since the company's founding. The location is deliberately accessible — close to transport links from across the territory — and the format deliberately small, so that each cohort can work at a considered pace.

Educational, Not Advisory

We are an educational provider. Everything we teach is intended to build your capacity to read and interpret markets — not to tell you what to buy, hold, or sell.

Regional Depth

Our programmes focus specifically on Asia-Pacific markets — the region most relevant to investors based in Hong Kong and the one most often addressed only in passing by general investment courses.

Small Cohorts

Cohorts are intentionally small — typically four to six participants — so that each session can be genuinely responsive to the questions and backgrounds of the people in the room.

Standards & Approach

How We Work

These principles guide how every programme at Monsoon Counsel is designed and delivered.

Independence

Monsoon Counsel has no affiliation with any brokerage, fund manager, or financial product distributor. Our content is not influenced by commercial relationships.

Structural, Not Tactical

We teach how markets are built, how they have behaved over time, and how they relate to each other — not which opportunities exist at any given moment.

Written Work

Each programme includes written exercises that participants complete between sessions. The act of writing supports retention and gives each person a personalised reference to keep.

Privacy & Discretion

Participant information is handled with care and never shared with third parties. Cohort discussions are conducted under an expectation of mutual discretion.

Honest Scope

We are clear about what our programmes cover and what they do not. We do not overstate what a participant will be able to do after completing a programme.

Ongoing Revision

Curriculum is reviewed annually to ensure the structural content remains accurate. Market examples and reference data are updated with each new cohort.

Our Position

Education in Asia-Pacific Markets, for Investors Who Live Here

Hong Kong sits at the intersection of the Asia-Pacific's major financial markets, yet many investors in the city have a far more limited understanding of those markets than their portfolio exposure might suggest. Regional equity and fixed-income markets behave differently from each other in ways that are knowable and teachable — and that knowledge matters when decisions need to be made.

Monsoon Counsel occupies a specific educational niche: serious, substantive instruction in Asia-Pacific market structure, aimed at midlife investors who have reached a point where they want more than surface familiarity. Our programmes do not assume professional background. They do assume intellectual seriousness and the willingness to engage with written material between sessions.

The metaphor of the monsoon — patterns that are broad in shape and variable in detail, traversing the region on a dependable seasonal cycle — captures something of what we hope our participants come to recognise in the markets themselves: structure that is legible without being predictable, and history that informs without determining what comes next.
